Hello! We’re Phil & Alan: Co-founders of Crooked River Brewing Co; an award winning independent brewery based at the fringe of the Lake District in West Cumbria.
Our story began back in 2022 when we met (over a beer of course) to discuss a bonkers idea of starting a small brewing business, nothing too adventurous, just enough to keep a couple of local beer shops happy, and so we bought ourselves a little brew kit and turned an old garden shed into a makeshift brewery.
A few months later, we launched a crowdfunding campaign which thanks to local support, give us the boost we needed to grow. That led to teaming up with The Tractor Shed, where we could finally brew lots of beer!
A few stressful years later and we’re now supplying beers across the country and happily integrated into the local beer market.
In late 2024 we opened our flagship taproom in Keswick, a family and pet-friendly bar where customers can enjoy our beers, enjoy live music, and learn about the brewing process directly from the team behind the beers. (Yes, the actual owners are pulling pints!)
Then, in early 2025, after years of dedication to great beer and community-building, Graeme and Rachel Mitchell of Tractor Shed Brewing announced their retirement, passing ownership of the brewery to us; a natural evolution after a 3-year partnership unlocking opportunity to expand our offerings and connect even deeper with our local community.
In September 2025, exactly three years after pouring our first ever pint at Taste Cumbria in Cockermouth, we came full circle — opening our very own beer shop on the same street, at the same festival and proud to say that the beers we serve are now recognised as award winning beer regionally and nationally!

Well im glad you asked...
Last year we launched our first beer festival with our friends at Low Hall the Lakes and at the festival we did a rubber duck race. We enjoyed it so much we made it our mascot!
In 2024 we took this to another level by launching a monthly rubber duck race; a fun challenge where runners race their chosen duckie on our route to Latrigg and back to earn your duck a place on the leaderboard.

Yes 2025 is the year we will kick off our cask range with a bitter, pale ale, golden ale and chocolate stout!

We have a shop! 24 Marketplace in Cockermouth and open 7 days a week.
If you’re not passing Cockermouth, you can buy our beers online via our web shop and we can deliver nation wide.
You can also buy our beer directly from our taproom too!
Unfortunately our beer is not available outside of the UK.

It's a lot of fun, thats what it is!
Each summer we host a series of events called Crooked River Social at Cockermouth Cricket Club where you can kick back after work on the club terrace and enjoy our beers while listening to some local live music and try out some epic local food from our favourite local traders.
Since the brewery acquisition in 2025 we will also be hosting socials at the brewery as well as Cockermouth and at our taproom in Keswick.
